Wasteland

about

This is the second single off of Proxy’s forthcoming album: Black Magic… the story of an unexplained resilience. Everywhere we turn, we face crises. It seems like a neverending wasteland. It feels like the perfect storm, but why? This may be just what we need. We must know what’s really wrong in order to make things right. We must truly understand suffering to appreciate victory. The pain we are feeling is the result of centuries of oppressive policy, hollow morals, and systemic injustice. Elijah McClain represents a light sent to our world to help us find our way. His light was taken and as tragic as his death was, it still may not have been enough to get our full attention. COVID, economic crash, and racial injustice together all point to one thing: a need for real change. God is not only the Creator of life, He is also the Restorer of life. Ezekiel 37 - it’s time to live again.

lyrics

What if? Just, what if… this is justice?

Hmmm, hmmm, yeah. Hey.
Been prayin’ for this wasteland, been prayin’ for this wasteland, oh oh. Ohhhh.
We need to begin again. I’ve been prayin’ for this wasteland, cause we need to begin again. Here’s a message for my seed.

I asked for healing - He gave us sickness,
I asked for wealth - He took all my greed,
I asked for more - He gave me nothing less,- now I feel like He gave us exactly what we need,
Prayin’ for peace - why need a war chest,
Pray for the poor - then give it all away,
Wanna pray for the world,- then you’ve gotta confess,
They can have it tomorrow as long as we’re today.
Say you want to build a wall,- but steady shoutin’ Jericho,
I don’t really think you understand, how it goes when you reap what you sow,
If eternity’s so close - then what’s it really matter,- when the world goes - broke, and stock market shatter, we all - gone - ghost, so let’s get active,
Beautiful irony, mercifully tragic.

This is a message to my seed,- and those coming after me - cause I want them to know,
In case it all repeats,- it’s exactly what we need - oh oh oh.
Everything high fall low, it ain’t right no more. No!
Been praying for this wasteland,- cause we need to begin again.

Speak to the wind - speak to waves - speak to the grave,
Speak to the man - I am not your slave,
It’s been a hella long night for too many days,
If you want real change - well this the only way,
Bullets have intention and there are never strays,
Oppression has invention and crime hella pays,
They forgot to mention it’s not just a phrase,
There’s a gameplan,- decks stacked and everybody plays,
Yeah, everybody prays when the lama sprays,
When they glove and mask up, and snatch supply chains,
Were you ever really safe in the first place when you can’t see it coming and gone without a trace?
Black smoke - blue flames, tell me where you gone escape,
This thing long-range,- and we in His beam,
So let the Spirit slay and shock the system,
Infinite wisdom, ancient of days.

This is a message to my seed,- and those coming after me - cause I want them to know,
In case it all repeats,- it’s exactly what we need - oh oh oh.
Everything high fall low, it ain’t right no more. No!
Been praying for this wasteland,- cause we need to begin again.

Speak into them bones - live again,
Beat into your heart - breathe again,
People rise up - we can win,
Dream again,
It’s not the end.
Speak into them bones - live again,
Beat into your heart - breathe again,
People rise up - we can win,
Dream again,
It’s not the end.
Speak into them bones - live again,
Beat into your heart - breathe again,
People rise up - we can win,
Dream again,
It’s not the end.

This is a message to my seed,- and those coming after me - cause I want them to know,
In case it all repeats,- it’s exactly what we need - oh oh oh.
Everything high fall low, it ain’t right no more. No!
Been praying for this wasteland,- cause we need to begin again.
