How can I ever say thank you to all of the people who sustained me, forgave me, loved me through every dark day? The best way I see is through a life well lived. A return on the investment they’ve made in me. So many of the parolees I’ve worked with over the years have said that’s the only way they know how to truly say “thank you”. This was one of the most fun songs I’ve ever recorded! The foundation S1 laid was so solid and I had to do the track right! We added a bridge and tons of percussion to make the song. It’s always a risk when you do something new in the studio; I’m so glad this turned out how I hoped it would!
It’s like the parable of the talents… The master never asked the servants about mishaps along the way. He didn’t ask if they lost anything, then gained it back with more. He just ultimately wanted the dividend on his investment. The best way for us to show that we value the many gifts we’ve been given, including life, is through a life that honors the giver. Living in a way to make Him smile. And while we walk, we can dance… why not?!
lyrics
Intro:
Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh!
Hey hey hey hey,
So many people I appreciate,
Keep my aim high - never stop tryin' - live my life right - that's how I say thank you.
Verse 1:
Some people say thank you – a million hands clap every single time I fall through, you could give me dap,
But not for what I do - I don't deserve this - really - only consequence but - He showed me mercy,
I - I-I-I-I'm not worthy,
Stripes on my uniform – stains on my jersey,
Half time speech now I'm back in the game,
Everything's changed but my name - I'm on it!
You gotta really love a reformed thug,
I feel so good I give all my haters hugs,
But I'll save that for later - this one's for the maker,
The whole world stands and applaudes - who's greater?
Now let it savor, and if my lifestyle is anything classify it as an indicator,-
Of real favor - yo, do me a favor,
When you make it out the struggle do your dance on the double - like so...
Chorus:
Oh oh oh oh,
Got another chance now I'm good to go,
Keep my aim high - never stop tryin' - live my life right - that's how I say thank you.
Hey hey hey hey,
So many people I appreciate,
Keep my aim high - never stop tryin' - live my life right - that's how I say thank you.
Verse 2:
So glad I'm alive - for life you should give it up,
should'a - could'a died – I’m a walking talking testimony,
Billion-dollar bet homie,
He put it on me - I got for my trouble,
How I make 'em wanna know me – heyyyy!
been done come a long way,
wake up it's a new day,
check in feeling okay - ayyyy!
but I'm still a long way,
Off on my best day,
From where I'm gonna be one dayyyy!
Somewhere out there - my future looms,- just waiting for me to breakthrough,
Man if I only knew - but would I truly be - who I s'posed to am - my past made me,
I see it in my sleep,- feel the sand tween my toes - I am so free - really only God knows,
Everything I did – what I was – what I owe,
Could never pay it back - so I go for what I know!
I’m up and down the freeway coastin' - like threewheel motion - top down with the windows open – I’m a!
Chorus:
Keep my aim high - never stop tryin' - live my life right - that's how I say thank you.
Hey hey hey hey,
So many people I appreciate,
Keep my aim high - never stop tryin' - live my life right - that's how I say thank you.
