The Lean

by Proxy

/

about

When I was 16, all I wanted was a baby blue El Dorado Cadillac; rag top of course! Just so I could bang this song while I whipped through the neighborhood! No, but really, after the multiple houses, cars, clothes and women, a 17 year old drug dealer looked me in the eye and expressed how good it felt to have nothing, post parole. He was no longer possessed by his possessions. Trapped by the trap. Humble in a real way, but still leanin’ on ‘em. He was back in the same neighborhoods, feeling brand new. I originally did the hook myself… ummm, no thanks. Rio blew that out of the water! Roll your windows down, turn your speakers up and let your wheels spin. I’ve got a pocket full of promise and I’m fresh on the scene, watch!

In the kingdom of heaven, things seem backwards. The weak are strong, the poor are rich and meek inherit the earth. Even when we’ve lost all this world has to offer us, if we’ve invested in the life to come, we won’t be disappointed. It changes your whole attitude when you know that. This song is all about humility with confidence.

lyrics

Chorus:
It’s the lean – it’s the lean, pocket full of promise – I’m fresh on the scene,
Yesterday's dirty but tomorrow's so clean,
Pushin’ through your hood with that ‘gangsta lean’,
It’s the lean – it’s the lean, pocket full of (ahhh…) I’m fresh on the scene,
My sock drawer’s clean – if you know what I mean,
Wrappin’ round them corners with that ‘gangsta lean’

Verse 1:
It's the lean it's the lean, I got a pocket full of promise and I'm fresh on the scene,
My future look nice - but my attitudes mean,
Cause purpose in my sight - but some people can't see - please,
So I bob and I weave,
Through every single hood,- suburb and between,
Swerve when I lean - chunk 'em high when I'm seen,
Take flight when it pops off - just like I had wings, yamean?
Use to want it in the worst way, no matter what it cost me,
Money, power, and fame - a lot of nothin.
Lost it on Thursday, now I'm on the first page,
Knees to the ground - askin'make me somethin.
So good to go - poppin' tags like I'm fresh from the sto(re)- never been befo(re) - seen, heard or known,
And if they ask about me - this is how I roll... roll.

(Chorus)

Verse 2:
... Now you can me first, cause a brother came in last but they feelin' worst, (much)
The homies love to floss; got chains on they neck but I know what it cost, (boss)
How may I serve you? Got a whole different meaning - what you heard dude? Cause it's probably true, I never miscontrue,
Feet on the table - clean plate - sippin' brand new.
And i don't care what they say, unworthy but I'm wealthy,
You could call me self made – no mo(re) construction
Got it on a Friday, then I hit the highway,
Life is what he paid me, keep it comin'
So good to go - poppin' tags like I'm fresh from the sto(re)- never been befo(re) - seen, heard or known,
And if they ask about me - this is how I roll... roll.

(Chorus)

Outro:
Just watch me lean – watch me lean on you.
Watch me lean, watch me lean yeah.
